 Bucket List Bora Bora

Bucket List Bora Bora

Bora Bora

We were so incredibly lucky to spend 4 nights in amazing Bora Bora. On our journey back from Australia/New Zealand, we decided that we should add to our bucket list vacation by stopping over in Bora Bora. We knew if we were going to ‘do this’ we should stay in an overwater bungalow. I mean why not, right? Well if you find an opportunity to get to Bora Bora, a few tips.

1.       Stay at an over water bungalow. It is a once and a lifetime opportunity, and the cost is not that much more, and hey you are in Bora Bora so just DO IT.

2.       Book early, these coveted over water bungalows are sought after, so do your research and book one early. We chose a moderately priced resort that was absolutely lovely. We stayed at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach resort. https://www.boraborapearlbeachresort.com/ The resort was amazing!

3.       Bora Bora is super sleepy, the purpose is to relax, so kick back and relax! Think sun, books, and sleep.   Words cannot do the views justice. You are on an island of relaxation (literally). Enjoy and soak up every moment. Tip: Buy a cheap raft from Amazon before you leave so you can enjoy once you are there and can just leave behind.

4.       Buy a black pearl. Tahiti is known for black pearls. Just do it, and buy one. However, find a reputable place to buy one. I did not do any research ahead of time, so either do research or do some googling as you walk into places so you 1, get a good value, and 2, get a good pearl. I ended up looking at Trip Advisor and found a good spot. I bought my pearl at Baldini.  The duty free process is incredibly easy. Get the paperwork and then go to the window in the Tahiti airport AFTER you get your boarding pass. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g311415-d2286689-r183747764-Baldini_perles-Bora_Bora_Society_Islands.html

5.       Don’t overdo it. Just relax. We ate at the hotel every night except one night (which happened to be Thanksgiving). We chose to go to the infamous Bloody Mary’s. We made a reservation (through the concierge) and the process was super easy. They took us by boat to the main land and then a bus picked us up to take us to Bloody Mary’s. Bloody Mary’s is a cool spot where you eat outside with your toes in the sand. You choose whatever they caught that day to have them cook up for dinner. It was a very cool experience.  The hotel had many options for dinner and easy and relaxing is just sometimes better. http://www.bloodymarys.com/

6.       If you go down to the village (think small village not city), stop by the grocery store and pick up some snacks, water, beer (Tahiti beer is decent – and affordable) so alleviate some of the costs at the resort. Take a bag with you so you don’t have to buy one. When we arrived, our room wasn’t ready yet so we went ahead and went down to the village and grabbed lunch at Aloe Cafe, some groceries, and this is when I was able to buy a pearl.  https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g669130-d1794628-Reviews-Aloe_Cafe-Vaitape_Bora_Bora_Society_Islands.html
